The California Project Learning Tree (PLT) program needs additional workshop leaders. There are two leadership training workshops this winter.
There is no cost for the training. Participants will receive copies of the new 2006 edition of the PreK-8 activity guide, a facilitator handbook and many other resources.
Friday, January 20 (4:30-9 PM) and Saturday, January 21, 2006 (8:30 AM to 3 PM) at Sonoma State University's Environmental Tech Center, Rohnert Park, CA
Friday, March 10 (4:30-9 PM) and Saturday, March 11 (8:30 AM to 3 PM) at the El Dorado Nature Center, Long Beach, CA
Anyone who will lead or help sponsor Project Learning Tree workshops may apply. This 12-hour facilitator-training workshop will prepare and certify you to represent the PLT program in your region. Upon completion of the training, you can offer PLT as a professional development workshop for teachers, youth group leaders, natural resource managers, parents and others. The goal of PLT workshops is to demonstrate to educators how useful the PLT materials and program are in helping integrate environmental education into their program and curriculum as well as meet California's academic grade level standards.
When joining the PLT facilitator network, you will receive "Branching Out," a newsletter for PLT facilitators, a variety of information to help keep you up-to-date with the trends in environmental education along with opportunities to attend additional training and gatherings. PLT also offers an annual awards program to recognize the outstanding service of those who implement PLT in California.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Kay Antunez, PLT Coordinator, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection to request a "PLT Facilitator Training Application." E-mail or call (916) 653-7958.
