Basics Plus: Starting and Sustaining Your School
Garden
This workshop covers the basics of preparing your ground, setting up
a watering system, planting,
and then controlling the inevitable weeds and critters. It also explores planting
cycles and strategies for maintaining a vital garden program over the long
haul. New and experienced gardeners welcome.

Power of Perennials
Discover how attractive, low-maintenance perennial herbs,
trees and California native plants can be included in the school landscape
or
garden area. Learn several ways they can be used for teaching.

Where the Wild Things are: Insects in the Garden
Search out
and identify insects and other creatures in the garden. Learn activities that
demonstrate their
important role in the garden ecosystem while teaching science and other subjects.

Gardens For Good Nutrition
School gardens present
wonderful opportunities for increasing students‚ awareness of good nutrition.
This workshop presents fun ways to teach the connections between gardens and
nutrition while incorporating
math, science, language arts and social studies concepts. Teachers will use
lessons from CA Dept of Education‚s publication, Kids Cook Farm-Fresh
Food, to prepare a meal from fresh garden produce.
