Put your program on the map
As I have been working on creating benefits for our
institutional members through the AEOE website, I have been struck by how many
truly wonderful programs for outdoor and environmental education we have in our
state! I invite everyone to take
a
look at the new California
EE Providers page (aeoe.org/membership/eeproviders/– or just click on the California graphic on the AEOE
homepage, aeoe.org)
and browse through the websites of our member organizations. It is inspiring!
Exploring these programs made me realize how many opportunities
there are out there, not only for students to get out and become immersed in
the natural world with great learning experiences, but also for environmental
educators looking for employment and great events. Many of the sites I visited had sponsored events such as
concerts (like Slide RanchÕs ÒGet Down to EarthÓ Festival held Memorial Day
weekend) and seminars (such as Camp Ocean PinesÕ Marine Mammals Seminar and
others), and workshops (such as Sly ParkÕs Summer Solar Institute). I would love to help promote these
events through the AEOE website calendar (aeoe.org/news/calendar.html), so if
your site is hosting an event, let me know!
If you are a teacher looking for an environmental education
program, click on the map to see what programs are available in your area. There are many wonderful programs, even
though we donÕt have ~all~ the EE Providers in the state – yet. The EE Providers page is only for AEOE
Institutional Members.
My goal is to create a clearinghouse for our member programs
to advertise/promote their services, with the ultimate goal of serving more
students with quality environmental and outdoor education. I hope that you will encourage YOUR
program administrators to join or
renew their institutional memberships with
AEOE, so they can get on the map, if they arenÕt already. Free publicity is a great new benefit
of AEOE Institutional membership, along with unlimited free job announcements
on the heavily used AEOE Joblist – and all this for only $30/year! Every EE Provider in the state should
become a member!
I hope you find this a useful resource, and encourage your
programs to Òget on the map.Ó
