Full Time Instructor

Program Description: YMCA Camp Surf is located on the Silver Strand State Beach about 20 minutes south of San Diego. Our facility houses 200 campers in rustic cabins and up to 300 participants which includes beach camping on the weekends. We offer traditional camp programs with an emphasis on aquatic activities and the coastal marine environment. Some instructors also train to be ocean lifeguards.

Job Description:

Teach outdoor education, leadership development, and recreational activities for both children and adults during spring and fall season. During the summer be a part of our summer resident camp program. Assume responsibility for the well-being and safety of all participants and assist in program equipment management and general upkeep as needed. Opportunity to certify as ocean lifeguard.

Qualifications: Background in outdoor education and/or recreational activities. A degree, certificate program, or experience in child development, education, recreation, marine studies or a related field is preferred. Must be able to walk groups from beach to estuary and from the center of camp to the jetty within the normal 90-minute activity time period. Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation. CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. LGT and ocean experience preferred.
