Trail Leader/Cabin Leader

Description: Do you love working with kids? Love being outdoors? Have experience or thinking about teaching in the classroom but want some more experience? We want you! Whether you have taught in the classroom or fresh out of college and wanting to teach, we would love to talk to you.

Naturalists are responsible for all teaching aspects of their particular trail group within a given week. Working as a team, you and two cabin leaders create an unforgettable week of science camp for a group of 16-20 kids. From digging in the dirt teaching geology, or looking at the stars through our telescopes, the possibilities for teaching abound. Working with 5th and 6th grade students from around Southern California, we train you to use and grow your teaching skills in a unique environment where kids thrive at learning. Come work as a Naturalist for Thousand Pines Outdoor School!

Thousand Pines Outdoor School is hiring energetic people to teach 5th and 6th grade students natural sciences in the San Bernardino Mountains. The Naturalist position follows the school calendar of January/February through June, working in beautiful Crestline. The Outdoor School is a five-day residential camp in which students come to learn, live, and play together. Naturalists are responsible for leading nature hikes, hands-on exploration, environmental games, and helping with the overall program. Naturalists will be teaching some or all of the following topics: plants, animal habitats, nocturnal adaptations and night hike, human impact, living history, astronomy, aquatic studies, and more. This is an excellent opportunity to gain teaching experience and familiarity with program development for youth organizations

Salary: $85.50 for Trail Guide; $124.00 for Trail Guide and Cabin Leading
Housing: Provided Full Time (nominal housing fee)
Meals: Provided During Program Only
