Program Description: The Science & Outdoor Education School at Pathfinder Ranch provides safe, fun, and challenging learning experiences that build a sense of respect for the natural world, self, and others. We aim to inspire students to use their knowledge, skills, and experiences to make a positive difference in their home communities. The Science & Outdoor Education Program began in the 1970’s and has since developed into a premier school of its kind in southern California. We are committed to providing teaching naturalists with a meaningful, challenging, fulfilling, and fun working environment.

Program Type: Residential

Job Description: The Naturalists at Pathfinder Ranch use established curriculum and the California State Standards as a guide in planning their own science and recreational classes. Naturalist will commonly teach four one hour and forty-five minute classes per day. In addition to teaching classes naturalist will be responsible for the following:

• Supervising 2-4 meals per week
  
• Teaching about 2 evening programs per week
  
• Other Areas of Responsibility and Fun (A.R.F.'s)
  
• Help unload/load busses
  
• Take students on orientation hikes
  
• Curriculum development
  
• Program enhancement and development
  
• Attend staff meetings
  
• Assist in overall program operations

Job Duration: School Year
Job Status: Full-Time, Temporary

Qualifications: We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

• Experience in teaching outdoor education & recreational classes
  
• College degree in a related field
  
• General knowledge of ecological, environmental, recreational, and conservation concepts
  
• Passion for teaching and building strong mentoring relationships with students
  
• Desire to creatively teach and create academic and recreational curriculum for fifth and sixth grade students
  
• Ability to be a beacon of positive energy in a community that lives, works, and eats together.
  
• Flexibility, self-motivation, high energy, and commitment to teamwork
  
• Current First Aid & CPR certification (WFA or WFR preferred)

Starting Salary: $325-$375 per week plus room and board

Benefits: Basic Medical Coverage, Training, Other

Housing: Provided Full Time; Each staff member has a private room and shares a bathroom with one other person. Shared common kitchen, living room, phone and laundry. Access to internet available on campus.
Meals: Provided During Program Only
