State Fundraiser [State]

The State Fundraiser of the Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education will:

  1. Attend at least one board meeting per year and maintain communication with the board throughout the year.
  2. Initiate and recruit, if appropriate, a volunteer fundraising committee.
  3. Develop a proposed fundraising campaign for the current year which considers grants, events and solicited donations, and present this to the board.
  4. Identify several grants for which AEOE might successfully compete, which are aligned with the mission and current activities of the organization. The board will then select one of more of these grants for application. The Fundraiser will then apply for one or more grants per year.
  5. Communicate with the section Chairs about the fundraising activities of the sections, and about needs of the sections which might be served by obtaining a state level grant.
  6. Keep records (database, etc.) of funding and grant ideas and successful sources of funding.

Notes

The Fundraiser is an appointed, non-voting member of the AEOE State Executive Board, who serves at the pleasure of the Board. This is a volunteer position for a nonprofit organization.

Qualifications

The Fundraiser must:

  1. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Have experience as the lead or team member of a grant proposal. Preference will be given to the lead of a successful grant proposal of $3000 or more.
  3. Have some familiarity with environmental education and environmental education organizations.
  4. Develop over time a detailed knowledge of the mission and activities of AEOE.

Reimbursement and Compensation

The Fundraiser will:

  1. Be reimbursed for the actual costs of the researching grants and making application, within a yearly budget set for this function.
  2. Provide documentation for all costs to the State Coordinating Secretary in a timely manner.

The Fundraiser may:

  1. Receive up to 10% of the grant monies as stipend for development of a successful grant, as negotiated with the board on a case-by-case basis, and within limits set by the granting organization or agency.
  2. Be reimbursed for maintaining membership in one state or national organization which addresses fundraising for nonprofit organizations such as AEOE.
  3. Be partially reimbursed for costs of attending a conference, course or workshop on fundraising for nonprofits.

Other

The state executive board will develop a funding target for the year with funds allocated to specific purposes.

Grants received will be administered by the State Coordinating Secretary in his/her function as the State Treasurer (chief financial officer), though this administrative function may be delegated to the Fundraiser as appropriate.

Funds raised will be allocated in such a way as to fairly serve the needs and interests of the entire organization and of all sections. The existence of a state fundraiser at the state level will not preclude the sections from having a similar position, nor will fundraising at the state level preclude the sections from fundraising.
