II. By-laws
Discussion of the history of the revision of the by-laws. A statewide committee started the process 4 years ago. Bernie Lemm did the major work of completing the project. There was a discussion of Article III, Section H regarding the ability of the board to revoke membership. The northern board voted to approve the by-laws. The southern board voted to approve the by-laws.
III. Coordinating Secretary
Bernie Lemm announced her resignation of the coordinating secretary position. Bernie was thanked for her many years of outstanding service to AEOE. Donald Beaver and Shirley Mason were nominated to fill the position. Donald Beaver was elected. The by-laws were ratified by the now completed executive committee.
The coordinating secretary's budget was amended to add $700 for liability insurance and $50 to continue to receive Taproot. Donald will make sure this amount will cover AEOE statewide. The new approved total budget is $900.38. This amount will be split between northern and southern.
IV. AEOE Scholarship
Dan Allison presented a proposal for establishing an AEOE scholarship fund to support individuals in the environmental education profession who are obtaining their teaching credentials. The results of the ensuing discussion fell into three basic categories: support for the credential scholarship fund, a smaller fund for education of present members of AEOE for ongoing education, a fund for high school students to further their interest in environmental education. An article for the newsletter will be written by Julie Sidel, Laura Tucker, and Kathleen Mitchell. Each section will have a workshop to generate specific proposals during each sections fall conference.
V. Membership brochure
Dan Allison presented a new membership brochure. People had comments about who is involved in AEOE, what kinds of activities we sponsor (liability). Dan will revise the brochure and send the new version to board members. Comments were due by May 15th. The new brochure will be approved at the fall conference.
