Southern Board Meeting Minutes

Attending: Chair Julie Faulkner, Chair-Elect Robin Frank, Activities Coordinator and Past Co-Chair Kate Mahon, Past Co-Chair Michael Charnofsky, Secretary Jennifer Lyn Schall, Membership Helen de la Maza, Newsletter Editor Maggie Wolfe, State Coordinating Secretary Debbie Carraway, State Historian Janice Smith, and Kathleen Mitchell.

Julie opened the meeting at 8:55 a.m. on Sunday of the Statewide AEOE Board Meeting weekend.

COMPENSATION FOR PRESENTERS
Presenters will attend the Southern Fall Camp Out for no cost.

COST early registration $20; late registration $25; walk-in registration $30.

NO DOGS

ADVERTISING
Michael: Advertise in CREEC newsletter, NEST News of San Bernardino, Southern CA COSA.
Debbie will contact Caroline for advertising in NAAEE. Debbie reminded the Board to please acknowledge Acorn Naturalists in any AEOE flyers.

Friday evening
5:00 Registration will begin
Snacks set up by Kate and Christine (Christine is doing food this weekend. Yeah!)
8:00 Astronomy Walk
Saturday morning
8:30 to 9:00 Debbie with Intros and Icebreakers
9:00 to 9:15 Starr Ranch staff hello, rules, and “what we do here” talk
9:30 to 10:45 1st session
11:00 to 12:15 2nd session
12:15 to 2:00 lunch
2:00 to 3:30 3rd session
3:30 free time
5:30 dinner
7:00 owl walk
8:30 story telling (Debbie is in charge)
with storybooks or certificates from Acorn Naturalists
followed by music jam (Julie will check quiet hours)
Sunday morning
9:00 to 10:30 last (4th) session
10:45 to 11:00 closing with Julie in charge
11:15 Southern Board meeting

T-SHIRTS AND MERCHANDISE
Helen will talk to Zayanne regarding AEOE carabiners, mugs, etc.

TEACHING AWARD
The Board decided that we were not ready to present a teaching award at this Southern Fall Camp Out, but to be ready by the next conference.

CONFERENCE JOBS
Kate and Christine: food.
Christine: Saturday night dinner. Menu: famous chili, cornbread, salad.
Helen: preregistration; on-site registration; and, making signs.
Debbie: on-site registration.
Michael: on-site registration.
Julie: presenters & schedule of presentations; will make lined on-site registration signs;and, facility liaison.


ESSAY CONTEST The Board approved an essay contest with a prize. The deadline is the winter edition of the southern newsletter.

NEWSLETTER REPORT
Please get newsletter stuff to Maggie well before the deadline. Mid. December for the winter newsletter.
