Members of AEOE are encouraged to nominate themselves or others to serve in positions on the section boards. Each section board consists of a Chair, Chair Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, and other standing committee chair positions as appointed, such as Newsletter Editor, Membership Chair, and Activities Chair. Elections are held in the spring of each year, often at the spring conference.

Please see the online position descriptions for detail about the duties of each position. The time commitment varies with the position. Board members are comped membership for the year of their service and are elegible for reduced fees for conferences. AEOE is a volunteer organization that depends on the service of members to carry out its mission of leadership in environmental education and activities such as conferences. Your service on the board supports AEOE and is a major step in the development of your professional goals.

• Chair assumes the position after serving one year as Chair Elect.
• Chair Elect is always elected by the members.
• Treasurer and Secretary may be elected or appointed by the Chair; an election will be held if more than one person is nominated; though election write-ins are permitted, election for these positions will not be held unless more than one nomination is submitted by the deadline.
• Other standing committee positions (Newsletter Editor, Membership Chair, Activities Chair, etc.) are appointed by the Chair. People are encouraged to volunteer for these positions using the forms below or by contacting a current member of the board.
• The State Executive Board is composed of the Chair and Chair Elect of each section, and a State Coordinating Secretary appointd by the other members of the board. Statewide positions are not elected.

In addition to formal board positions, there are a variety of opportunities to serve AEOE and the profession as a volunteer working on the standing committees, elections, conference planning and hosting, and other activities of the organization. Please contact your section chair to volunteer your time and talents.

Persons nominated must be current members of AEOE, and residents of the section for which they are nominated. Please obtain the consent of someone before nominating them to a position. The nomination forms may also be used to express an interest in being appointed to a position as one of the standing committee chairs, and to the appointed statewide positions of State Coordinating Secretary, State Historian, and Webmaster. Nominations must be emailed or postmarked by February 15. The nominating committee will contact the person nominated to request submission of a candidate statement which includes:

• Statement of interest in the position
• Experience with AEOE and other environmental education or teaching organizations
• Philosophy about environmental education and the role of AEOE in environmental education leadership
• Brief biographical sketch
• Photograph (optional, may be print, slide or digital file)

This candidate statement will be published in the spring newsletters and on the AEOE website. Write-ins are permitted for any position open to election, however, a person must verbally consent to being a write-in before the election.

Elections will be held at the spring conference, or through the Spring newsletters, as determined by each section board. Election results will be tabulated by the nominating committees. Positions elected and appointed will be announced by the end of the spring conference and in the Late Spring newsletters.
