This year two AEOE members shared the honor of being chosen to receive the Environmental Educator of the Year Award--Savannah Brown, and Dan Webster. In the Winter 2002 Newsletter we featured Dan. Now we would like to highlight the talented Ms. Savannah Brown.

As the Lead Teacher at Green Meadows Outdoor School Savannah has the opportunity to work with all segments of the outdoor school community: teachers, administration, counselors, staff, and most importantly--kids! Teaching is something that she loves; whether it’s kids on the trail, new interns at the outdoor school, or a new drinking game to the AEOE board, Savannah is at her best when leading others.
Savannah loves living in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A native of the
Bay Area, she truly appreciates the four season life-style of the mountains.
When most
people would take vacation time away, Savannah spends her summers in the
employ of the National Park Service in the Yosemite high country. She has also
logged
in hundreds of miles on the Pacific Crest Trail.
This Spring marks the fifth anniversary of the AEOE Conference at Jones Gulch
where Savannah first volunteered to serve on the AEOE Board. She has kept
on serving in the capacity of Treasurer, Co-Chair, Conference Coordinator,
Dinner
Specialist and provider of wine and cheese at the Fall Conferences, and currently
she is once again wearing the hat of Treasurer. Savannah is a well-rounded
professional and we are lucky to count her as member and friend.
Dan Webster has been the Head Naturalist at Foothill Horizons since 1996. Growing up in the remote Eastern forests of Maine helped to steer him toward a career that involved nature. Dan's first job in outdoor education was as a Ropes Course facilitator at Genesse Valley Outdoor Learning Center in Maryland. Back in California Dan has been a naturalist at Woodleaf Outdoor School, and the Head Naturalist at Monterey County Outdoor Science School. Summertime finds him wilderness trip leading for a summer camp in Maine.
He serves on the Advisory Board for the CREEC Network, and has been the Northern Newsletter Editor for the AEOE since 1997.
